Shots from the front and back. The irises are among the last photographs Kate ever took, May 14, 2012, nine days before she died. She re-organized the irises the previous fall, so that the would grow in a line. And they did. And the garden was full and beautiful as the end went down. The water-on-leaf was one of her favorite shots: 2009. Kate included the lettuce shot in a workplace art show: 2009. The yellow flower is from the year we grew pumpkins on our front yard: 2009. We ended up with one, saving it through various fortifications from the racoons. Butterfly, 2010

Poppies, 2011. Can you look at these and not think of Georgia O'Keeffe? The first poppy of 2012 bloomed when Kate was dying. I picked it an brought it to her and she smiled. I cannot look at these poppies and not think of that. How she responded to the beauty of the poppy, days before the end.
